Aleyant Systems Targets Mobile Workers with New HTML5 Interface.

Interactive Designer Enables Device-Independent Browser-Based Interactive Document and Template Design

September 6, 2011. Wheaton, IL -- Aleyant Systems, an innovative leader in providing robust software services to the graphic communications industry at value-driven prices, today announced a new release of Interactive Designer, a key component of eDocBuilder, its web-based variable data publishing system for rapid template creation. The new release, designed to perform on both desktops and tablets, uses HTML5 and jQuery instead of Adobe Flash and Adobe Flex used by most other template solutions. eDocBuilder is a component of Pressero, the company’s web-to-print solution. Aleyant will be showcasing the HTML5 version of Interactive Designer at Graph Expo, McCormick Place, September 11-14, 2011. Aleyant Systems is located in Booth #355 at the show.

“With an increasing shift toward mobile platforms, and especially in consideration of Apple iPad market dominance at this time,” said Greg Salzman, Aleyant’s President, “our goal was to make the interactive design component of our solution easily accessible regardless of the platform the user selects. Substituting HTML5 and jQuery for Flash and Flex also addresses the uncertainties surrounding Apple’s resistance to enabling the Adobe platform on the iPad.”

Salzman explains that in making this decision, the company considered whether to implement iPad/Android apps, or to take the HTML5 path, saying, “We believe the HTML5 route is the best bet at this point. With an app, users need to download software to their device. In some cases, corporate computing policies may make this increasingly difficult; in others, it is an inconvenience that users may not want to incur when ordering print. With HTML5, the entire process is Cloud- and browser-based, making access to sophisticated interactive design trouble-free. In addition, work in progress is stored in the Cloud and can be accessed at any time from other devices, dependent upon what is most convenient for the user at any given time.”

With its Cloud architecture, Interactive Designer allows users to store large files, such as graphics and fonts, in eDocBuilder without the need for the web browser to download them, saving time, and possibly saving data charges as well. Users can also easily import photos from online services such as Facebook and Picasa. Printing companies offering Interactive Designer as part of their Pressero web-to-print offering can assign design rules to graphic and text objects within the document to ensure better quality file submissions.

The new version will be available as an upgrade to all existing Pressero users in the 4th quarter following a beta test phase, and will be standard for new users. Over time, Aleyant Systems will be phasing out support for Flash/Flex as users upgrade.
